Description of Wound as indicated on Surgeon General's form
Pension records state that Barned received a gun shot wound below the knee of his right leg on May 3, 1863 during the Battle of Chancellorsville. He was treated in field hospitals at Chancellorsville as well as in Washington D.C. and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

This diagram, from the pension records, shows specifically where Barned's wounds were located on his body. Throughout the pension records Barned complains many times of "lameness." It is due to this lameness that he recieved his pension. Barned also recieved a wound to the forehead as a result being clubbed with a revolver. However, he did not recieve any additional money from the Pension Office due to this wound.
